Need Your Ideas and Opinions

You say nobody asks for your opinion?

You wonder why nobody seems to plan for the future?

Well...here is your chance! We need your opinions and ideas.
We have scheduled two meetings to get important community input in the development of the Burgess Community Bike/Pedestrian Plan. The need for improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure was identified during the development of the Burgess Community Area Plan. We are working with the Horry County Planning Department and the Edgar Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy at Coastal Carolina University. Students have already taken inventory of existing connectivity and gaps in the system.
The first meeting is set for March 26 at 7:00 pm at the South Strand Recreation Center. This meeting will provide an explanation of the process as well as visual examples of different types of facilities along with a discussion of important considerations such as safety, cost, maintenance and user needs. There will be maps on which you can actually draw.  You will take a topical survey to help gauge the degree of community support, areas most in need of facilities, potential use, etc. A visual survey will help determine the type of  infrastructure residents would like to see.
At our next Quarterly Meeting on April 30 we will see and discuss the results of the surveys and provide direction.  This meeting will also be at 7:00 pm at the South Strand Recreation Center.
We will not be able to understand your opinions and ideas unless you participate.

Seismic Testing Discussion Slated

News Release from SODA (Stop Oil Drilling in the Atlantic}

Seismic Testing and Oil Drilling off the South Carolina Coast
A number of oil & gas companies have already applied for permits to explore the viability of drilling for oil and gas off our SC coast.
Please join us for an evening of fact-based learning and respectful dialogue as we raise questions, seek answers and share our experience and expertise, while we learn more about the potential impact of oil and gas drilling off our coast.
Prior to a Q&A session, we will have a presentation by Peg Howell, to update us on the Dept of Interior pre-leasing process that is currently underway. Peg is a resident of North Litchfield, has a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and has worked with a number of oil companies including Chevron and Exxon-Mobil. She has personally spent time on oil drilling rigs in both the North Sea and in the Gulf.

Whatever your current thinking on offshore drilling, you will find this presentation and discussion informative. It is a rare opportunity to have your questions addressed by a highly qualified petroleum engineer.
