Editorial: "Stickville"?

We hope they don't look as bad as these shacks in the South Pacific.
It comes as a shock to learn that developers plan to stick up to 94 vacation "homes" around the large holding pond within the Meadowoods housing area on 17  Bypass between Holmestown Road and the Garden City Connector.  And from what we're hearing a flood safety berm will be dug out and removed to allow access to the structures many have begun to call Stickville.

As described in the developer's materials submitted to county authorities, each of the tiny camps will not fit on the thread-like strip of land available between the holding pond and the back yards of Meadowoods and Meadows of St. Patrick homeowners.  The builder's solution to not enough land?  Put teepee-sized camps on stilts in the water!

If Horry County authorities approve this dismal use of a thread of property too small for any reasonable development, building practices in the county will have gone from questionably sane to definitely insane. If Horry County can ban tents on the beaches, they can certainly ban teepees on the shores of important storm drainage facilities that homeowners depend upon for the safety of their homes and property.
Rough indication of  strip of land for about a third of the development.
We hear homeowners in the Meadowoods community, as well as the adjoining Meadows of St. Patrick, will soon see opposing petitions brought to their doors by neighbors.  We urge your signature in support of blocking this nonsensical project.  Petitions will be presented to Horry County at a May 1 meeting.
