Several
decades ago an esteemed member of the House of Representatives stated
that elected officials and public servants have a shelf life. After a
period of time the effectiveness of the elected official and the
benefits and services the constituents receive are gradually reduced
and somewhat diminished. I feel that I have reached that time and point
in my life. Therefore, in an attempt to insure that the vitality of
Horry County Council and District 8 remain at a high level of
effectiveness, I am taking this opportunity to announce that I am not
going to file for re-election. Any resident of District 8 is welcome
and encouraged to file and run for the seat I have held for the last 11
years.
I
am grateful and appreciative of the citizens of District 8 and
throughout the county for electing me three times. Furthermore, I am
thankful for their willingness to share their thoughts, ideas, and
concerns with me the last 11 years. I will remain in office until
December 31, 2014, and look forward to continuing to serve the citizens
