Conway, South Carolina:
Horry County is in the process of preparing various property tax mailings, as detailed below.
A state-mandated, countywide reassessment of all real properties in Horry County has occurred for tax year 2014, based on values as of December 31, 2013. Horry County?s last reassessment determined the fair market value of real properties as of December 31, 2008, and the amounts of real estate (property) tax paid on those values through tax year 2013.
In August, a notice of reassessment will be mailed to all property owners in Horry County whose property?s market value increases $1,000 or more as a result of reassessment. Only real property is appraised during a reassessment, which includes land and any improvements on it such as a house, outbuilding, swimming pool, or dock. During a reassessment, the Assessor?s Office will review the market values of all properties in the county. Based on changes in the real estate market, the Assessor?s Office will determine which property values need to be increased or decreased.

From the MOSP Board
The following was received from the Meadows of St. Patrick Board of Directors:
Fish Camp
Update!
"The
county will be hosting a meeting with the Smith Company and the area communities
to discuss the Fish Camp project. The meeting will be held on July 12 at 10:00am
at the Inlet Sq. Mall Community Room (beside the Stein Mart). The county called
this meeting so our communities could address their concerns to the builder, so
if you have any interest in this matter, it's highly recommend you attend if
possible.
"I have heard that trees are being taken down around the
lake and some people have gotten quite upset about it. Keep in mind that Smith
owns this land and has a legal right to take down every tree if he wants. He is
going to develop this land and in South Carolina he can shoot you if he feels
threatened on his property. What we are wrestling for here is how the area is
going to be developed. The current fight is to prevent the land from being
rezoned to "urban high density" so he can't build 100 town homes on stilts
around the lake. This is going to be a long-term effort and we will have more
battles to come on this matter, but we can have a major impact on how this area
will ultimately developed if we stay engaged in the fight."

Hurricane Arthur Update:
3 July 2014
Time: 2 p.m.
HURRICANE ARTHUR PRECAUTIONS
Conway, South Carolina –
Horry County remains at a Level 4 Operating Condition (OPCON 4) as
Hurricane Arthur moves past the area. OPCON 4 puts Horry County on
“Alert” status, which means that county officials have are in continual
discussions with South Carolina Emergency Management, the National
Weather Service, and coastal communities including local municipalities.
In
anticipation of possible effects on Horry County from Hurricane Arthur,
the National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Warning today for
part of the southeastern coast to include Horry County. A Tropical
Storm Warning means tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 39-73
mph) are expected within the warning area within 36-hours.
As
Hurricane Arthur passes by, Horry County could see a one to three foot
storm surge that should occur during mainly during low tide. The
current track brings Arthur into North Carolina as a potential Category
2 storm. Residents of Horry County can expect 25-35 mph sustained
winds with gusts up to 45-mph, periods of heavy rain, 1-3 foot storm
surge, beach erosion, high surf with very strong rip currents, and a
chance of isolated tornadoes.
Citizens
should survey their property to mitigate the potential of flooding such
as making sure storm drains and gutters are clear of debris. Citizens
are reminded that any loose outdoor items such as patio furniture or
toys could become airborne. All outdoor items should be secured by
bringing it inside. It is also advised that people avoid flooded areas
and downed power lines.
Anyone traveling is urged to exercise caution due to ponding on roadways and potential flooding in low laying areas.
While
Horry County will not experience hurricane conditions as this storm
passes by, everyone should use this storm as a reminder to take the
time to get their family hurricane plans in place; including items that
may be needed like water, batteries, flashlights, etc. Additional
hurricane information can be found on Horry County’s website at www.horrycounty.org.
