MOSQUITO SPRAYING SCHEDULE

For September 1 – September 4, 2014

Horry County will begin mosquito spraying, weather permitting, in the following areas:

 

·      Nichols

·      Red Bluff

Aerial spraying will be conducted in the evenings usually between 7 p.m. - dusk and ground operations from 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Monday - Thursday weather permitting. 

The chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are approved by the EPA and pose minimal risk to humans or animals.  Individuals with asthma or other respiratory illness may wish to stay indoors and close windows and doors during spraying.  In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.

To help keep our honeybee population safe, beekeepers are urged to contact Horry County Mosquito & Spraying to identify the location of their colonies.  In addition, citizens with concerns, complaints, or those requesting spraying in their area can also contact Horry County Mosquito & Spraying at 915-5174.

Auditions will be held at the Murrells Inlet Community Theatre

The play is set in a public dog run in Hoboken, New Jersey, a small city directly across the Hudson River from New York's financial district.

1 - male (Actors that can play age range in 50's)

Ralph - widower who lives with his sister Rose.

2 - females (Actors that can play age range in 50's)

Rose - Ralph's sister whose husband left her years ago.

Carol - Woman who takes her dog to a doggie park where she meets Ralph.

Donna Catton-Johnson - Director

Donna has been involved in many theatrical productions since 1978 as an actor, director and costume designer. She holds an interdisciplinary B.A. and teacher certification in both Visual Arts and Theatre. She has done Donna has acted in Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at The House of Blue and several commercials. She directed Drowning Sorrows for MICT. Her most recent acting stint was for Theatre of The Republic in August: Osage County.

Clock Tower Books To Host Book Signing: TOM – A Life Saved – Lives Lost

Clock Tower Books in Georgetown will host a book signing at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2 for “Tom: A Life Saved; Lives Lost!” written by Georgetown County resident Goffinet (Hutton) McLaren.

      McLaren’s father, Thomas Hardy Hutton, joined Britain's Royal Air Force during WWII.and

returning from a bombing run to Czechoslovakia in April, 1943, he bailed out of his burning Lancaster bomber.. McLaren's book tells the unique story of her father’s escape from Nazi-occupied Belgium and France with the help of members of the Resistance Movement and Special Operations Executive (SOE).  These British World War II organizations conducted espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance of occupied Europe against the Axis powers, aided by local resistance movements.

      The book covers the major events leading up to the war, the vital role played by Northern Ireland, the blitzing of Belfast, the welcome arrival of the Yanks in Northern Ireland after Pearl Harbor, some major beauty spots of the little country, the important alliance of Winston Churchill, President Roosevelt and General Dwight Eisenhower in defeating Hitler and the origin of the author’s special given name, Goffinet.

      As the 70th anniversary of the WWII victory approaches in April, 2015, this true story of a British airman serves as a reminder of those dark days in the 1940’s when the Allies pulled together as one unit to defeat the Nazi dictator.

     Author Goffinet McLaren was born in 1945 in Northern Ireland, where she grew up before coing to reside in Litchfield, Pawleys Island.

     Clock Tower Books is at 105 Screven Street, just a few doors from Front Street in downtown Georgetown.
