TRAFFIC SHIFT ON THE NEW US17 BYPASS/SC707 INTERCHANGE BRIDGES TO BEGIN SUNDAY
Conway, South Carolina – Contractors
will begin shifting traffic on the southbound bridge of the new US17
Bypass/SC707 Interchange on Sunday, October 19 at 8 p.m. The complete
traffic shift for the southbound bridge will take approximately three
days to complete and will be finalized on Tuesday, October 21, at 6
a.m. Motorists can expect limited nighttime (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures southbound on US17 Bypass on October 19 and 20.
The traffic shift for the northbound bridge will begin on Sunday, October 26, at 8 p.m. and will
have a similar schedule as the southbound bridge. The complete traffic
shift for the northbound bridge will take approximately three days to
complete and is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, October 28, at 6
a.m., weather permitting. Motorist can expect limited nighttime (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures northbound on US17 Bypass on October 26 & 27.
The entire project will be substantially completed in November 2014 and landscaping will continue into 2015.

HORRY COUNTY COMMUNITY CLEANUP DAY
Conway, South Carolina - Horry
County Council, in conjunction with Keep Horry County Beautiful and
numerous partners, will host a countywide, volunteer litter cleanup
event Saturday, November 8, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The
event will feature 11-locations around the county where volunteers can
choose to participate. Sign-in at each location will begin at 8:30 a.m.
with roadside pickup to begin at 9 am to 11:30 am.
Volunteers
are invited to a post celebration party at the Myrtle Beach Speedway
from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. The litter collected at the various
locations around the county will be transported to and displayed at the
Speedway. There will be food, prizes, entertainment, and much more!

HORRY COUNTY VEHICLE TAX RECEIPTS CHANGED

Effective immediately, citizens who mail in their annual vehicle tax
payment or drop their payment off in one of the Horry County
Treasurer�s drop box locations, will receive a receipt with their
renewal registration and sticker from the South Carolina Department of
Motor Vehicles instead of the county mailing a separate vehicle tax
receipt. Citizens who pay in person or online will continue to receive a printed receipt.
The Horry County Treasurer�s Office has office locations in:
- Conway at the Horry County Government & Justice Center, 1301 Second Avenue,
- Myrtle Beach at the Olin Blanton Complex, 1201 21st Avenue,
- Socastee/Myrtle Beach at the South Strand Complex, 9630 Scipio Lane
- Little River/Longs at the Stephen�s Crossroads Complex, 107 Highway 57 North.
Citizens may visit the Horry County website at www.horrycounty.org to print additional copies of their receipt or pay their taxes online. Simply click on Online Services and then Tax Payments & Receipts. The system allows searching by name, receipt number or map number.

Neighborhood Yard Sale
SOME PROPERTY OWNERS TO RECEIVE PROPERTY ASSESSMENT NOTICES THIS WEEK

Conway, South Carolina—
Approximately 26 percent of Horry County property owners will be
receiving real estate assessment notices this week. The form they will
receive is clearly marked at the top with “THIS IS NOT A
TAX BILL”, and it shows the 2014 market and taxable property values, as
well as the assessment value which is used to calculate the tax bill.
The reason that not all property owners will receive this notice is
that State law requires the notice to be sent only to owners of
properties whose market value has increased by $1,000. This notice
also provides guidance if the owner would like to appeal the assessment
on their property.
The
2014 real estate property reassessment has resulted in 65,266
properties with market value increases of $1,000 or more, which are the
properties that will receive the assessment notices. There are 158,662
properties with market value decreases of $1,000 or more and 26,000
properties with increases or decreases less than $1,000.
Each
property owner has 90 days after the date of the assessment notice to
notify the Assessor’s Office if they would like to appeal the value as
shown on the reassessment notice. The appeal form is available athttp://www.horrycounty.org/portals/0/Docs/assessor/appeal-2014.pdf.
Filing an appeal does not waive the tax liability, so while the appeals
process is underway, it is recommended that you pay the tax liability
prior to the penalty period to avoid further penalties. For more
information on property assessment notices, please contact the Horry
County Assessor’s Department at (843) 915-5040.
Also
towards the end of October, the county will mail real property tax
bills. Approximately 250,000 bills will be mailed. However, if you have
made installment payments during the year as payments to be applied
against your 2014 real property tax bill, your tax bill will not be
mailed to you until November
15th. The reason for this delay is that the installment payment that
you make during the month of October needs to be processed in order to
determine the remaining balance due on your 2014 taxes. Tax bills
relating to 2014 can be paid without penalty up to January 15, 2015.
Payments postmarked after January 15, 2015, and payments paid at the
County’s Treasurer’s Office locations after January 15, 2015 will be
subject to a 3% penalty, and an additional penalty of 7% if not paid on
or before February 1, 2015, and a third penalty of 5% if not paid on or
before March 16, 2015. Additional information relating to paying real
property taxes on-line, or signing up for the installment payment plan,
is available at http://www.horrycounty.org/Departments/Treasurer.aspx.
New applications for the 2015 tax year Installment Payment Program
deadline is January 15, 2015. For more information concerning tax

HORRY COUNTY TREASURER'S AND AUDITOR'S OFFICES TO CLOSE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD

All Horry County Treasurer’s and Horry County Auditor’s Offices will
close Friday, October 3, 2014, to transition to a new tax software
system. The new system, QS1, currently serves 29 of the 46 counties in
South Carolina and will now be utilized in Horry County.
In
addition, Internet payments will not be accessible and credit/debit
transactions cannot be made at any of the Horry County Treasurer’s
offices beginning at noon Thursday, October 2, 2014, until 8 a.m.
